Background
Ivan started his career as a public defender; ensuring that those who could not afford an attorney still had access to an advocate who cared about their issues. Ivan also represented the Kansas City Public Schools for 8 years. Ivan successfully defended KCPS in more than 13 jury trials. In addition to his courtroom advocacy, Ivan also counseled KCPS on various education and governmental related matters.
As a trial attorney, Ivan has experience litigating contracts, employment, due process claims, student rights claims, parental rights disputes, local ordinances, statutory regulations, sovereign immunity, and matters involving tax incremental financing. The bulk of Ivan’s trial experience is employment-related. Throughout 2014-2015 Ivan successfully defended KCPS in 6 straight jury trials.
During Ivan’s time in the private sector, he represented more school districts, including urban, rural, and suburban school districts. Ivan’s experience representing school districts in educational, employment, and business-related matters; along with his trial experience, makes him a unique member of our team.
