Krigel & Krigel was recently honored by the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA) with the Robert C. Welch Volunteer Attorney Project Award.
About the Award
The Robert C. Welch Volunteer Attorney Project Award is presented annually to an individual and a law firm who, through the Volunteer Attorney Project (VAP), have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to the delivery of pro bono legal services in our community. The Voluntary Attorney Project is associated with Legal Aid of Western Missouri.
Krigel & Krigel’s Community Involvement
“Giving back to our community and getting involved in things that matter to us are an important part of our culture,” said Kelly Postlewait, who was presented the award at KCBMA’s annual Bench-Bar & Boardroom Conference in Branson, Missouri. “It’s important to Sandy and Erlene (the founders of Krigel & Krigel) that we use our skill sets to help others in need.”
The firm encourages everyone to get involved with the community and provides the opportunity to take on pro bono cases to support those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford the legal services they need. Most, if not all, of the attorneys at Krigel & Krigel do some form of volunteer work, whether it’s related to the law or other interests they care about.
Accepting the Award: Kelly Postlewait
Kelly Postlewait was chosen to receive the award on behalf of the firm. She graduated from the UMKC School of Law in 2014 and has been active in the legal community ever since.
She sits on the board for The Justice Project, a Kansas City-based non-profit that provides access to the justice system for low-income women who are involved in the sex industry. The organization advocates for having the tools needed to transition out of the industry, recognizing that once women have those tools, they often take the steps to get out.
Kelly also donates her time to a personal passion: dance. She received a BFA in Dance from The University of Kansas is 2009 and today gives back to that community by serving as the Vice Chair for the non-profit Defy Dance Project. Defy Dance Project provides pre-professional training to young dance artists who will be embarking on a professional dance career in the future.
