You could say Christopher Smith has the law in his blood. His father was a lawyer, but Christopher had no interest in following his footsteps until his last year of undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri, Columbia. A group of students who lived nearby were just starting law school and suddenly Christopher was intrigued. He made the last minute decision to take the LSAT and was accepted into several programs, including the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law where he studied until he graduated in 1983.
A Unique Perspective
Over the years Christopher has practiced several areas of law. He served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and then worked for the Office of the Missouri Attorney General in the Labor Division where he gained experience working on the defense side of workers’ compensation cases.
During his tenure as an Assistant Attorney General, he met a colleague who introduced him to the claimants’ side of workers’ compensation cases and has been hooked ever since. His background provides him a unique perspective, allowing him to see the bigger picture of each case.
A Love for Connecting
Christopher’s favorite part of practicing law is the people he gets to work with: from clients to other lawyers and judges. He has an uncanny ability to relate to and build rapport with all types of people, allowing him to be very plugged into Kansas City’s workers’ compensation community.
Christopher is committed to helping his clients get a fair result under their unique set of circumstances and he takes the time to educate them on their case and advise them on what is reasonable to expect. He prides himself on good communication skills, making himself accessible and responsive to clients.
A Collaborative Firm with Excellent People
Christopher joined Krigel & Krigel in 2011 and is glad he did. He thoroughly enjoys working with everyone at the firm and attributes Krigel & Krigel’s success to its high level of professionalism, collaborative nature and relaxed culture. He likes that there are a range of disciplines under one roof, making it easy to help clients with any issues that may arise.
Dedicated to Community
When he’s not working Christopher donates his time, serving on the board of directors of SAVE, Inc., a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide housing for individuals with HIV/AIDS as well as those with mental health issues. In his spare time, he likes to travel abroad, keep an active lifestyle and spend time with friends.

In a legal situation that was daunting, confusing, and thoroughly stressful, the team at Krigel & Krigel was indispensable. The attorneys were knowledgeable, prompt, patient, and communicative. Always taking the time to walk me through the processes & what to expect in the next steps. I couldn’t recommend a better group of professionals.
