Representing Birth Mothers in Adoption

At Krigel & Krigel, P.C., our lawyers understand how overwhelming the arrival of an unplanned child can be. We have assisted many birth mothers who want to give the gift of life to a child and the gift of a child to another family. Our adoption lawyers can explain your options for an open adoption or a closed adoption.

We are experienced adoption attorneys and can assist you to find adoptive parents for your child. We can answer your questions from who will pay for the costs of the birth and adoption to how you will select an adoptive family.

Your Options as a Birth Mother

As a birth parent hoping for the best for your baby, you have pressing questions and you need answers. We can understand that. When you give your child up for adoption, you can:

  • Request a home study for each potential adoptive family
  • Meet the adoptive parent or parents, if both sides agree
  • Select the adoptive family for your child
  • Maintain on-going contact with your child, if both sides agree

Under Missouri and Kansas law, adoptive parents are allowed to shoulder the financial burden of the birth. Adoptive, or intended parents, can pay for legal fees, a social worker, reasonable and court-approved living expenses for the birth mother and certain other fees. We can draft documents that arrange for the payment of these expenses so that you do not have to worry about them during this emotional time.
